Susan is the creator of "Susan's Art", beautifully crafted ceramics for both everyday and special occasions! Susan's current artistic passion is creating and educating herself in the world of handmade, whimsical and functional ceramics.
What are you currently working on?
I continue to work on improving my skill both at the wheel and extruder. The fairy houses and bird houses have been a great success and I am always looking for ways to improve or create new elements in their design. Where do you gather most of your inspiration for your artwork?
From my peers. I am constantly impressed with their creations and they inspire me.
Do you have any other interesting hobbies or fun stories involving your work?
One hobby of mine, in relation to my pottery, is that I created my own art studio in the comfort of my home. I find creating a space that is my own for my creations influences my passion for what I do. I enjoy the quiet time alone for creating art and very much enjoy improving the functionality of my art studio. What is your strongest memory of your childhood?
Time spent with family. I will always cherish the memories of my mother, Betty Mathie, who has left an imprint in who I am and what I do.
What jobs have you done other than being an artist?
I was an Elementary Art Teacher for about 15 years as well as a professional water-colorist What would people be surprised to learn about you?
One of my watercolors in my American Flag series was housed in the Senators Mansion for many years.
